In addition to the ever-changing seasonal selection of fresh local mushrooms, Blackberry Food Co-op is now carrying organic medicinal mushroom extract powders from Mountain Rose Herbs.

Organic Medicinal Mushroom Extract Powders
More bio-available than simple powdered mushrooms, extract powders can be added to broths and soups, drink mixes; and they are great in coffee and hot chocolate!

The Process

The mushrooms are milled into a fine powder, which is then steeped in water at 90–100°C for three hours. Once this decoction finishes, the water is evaporated to yield a concentrated liquid. While still in liquid form, the extract is fed into a spray drier, producing a fine powder. Throughout this process, the raw material stays in the extraction the entire time. As a result, the finished product is more bioavailable than plain powdered mushrooms, which require additional cooking or processing before their beneficial compounds become accessible.

Current Selection

Lion’s Mane:

Packed with vitamins such as thiamine, riboflavin, and niacin, it’s a very nutritious supplement, while also being a source of essential minerals like manganese, zinc, and potassium. Turkey tail is becoming widely popular for its use in immune support and digestive formulas. Indigenous cultures around the world have used the turkey tail mushroom for millennia for its healthful properties. Especially revered in Asian cultures, it has a long history of use in Traditional Chinese Medicine to increase Chi, strengthen the lungs, and support the liver and immune systems.

Cordyceps mushrooms:

A wonderful addition to drinks, smoothies, and savory broths. They are known for their energy and stamina support and have long been used in Traditional Tibetan and Chinese medicine to support immune health and battle fatigue.
