Blackberry Food Co-op to Carry Forward Coast Fork Farm Stand's Legacy

Press Release, Oct. 5, 2025

Good News!

The transition of the Coast Fork Farm Stand to the newly incorporated Blackberry Food Co-op is moving forward at an increased pace. Scott Burgwin and Blackberry Food Co-op have been working on a Purchase & Sales Agreement, and we’re pleased to share that it has now been signed. Blackberry Food Co-op will officially begin running store operations at the end of December 2025.

This timeline gives Blackberry Food Co-op time to set up their own POS-system, obtain USDA authorization to be a SNAP retailer, acquire ODA licensing and other important operational requirements of a food co-op.

To ensure a smooth handoff, interim management of the store will begin on October 14th, with Scott’s last day in operations on October 15th. The interim management is supported by Blackberry Food Co-op who will run the Farm Stand using the systems it already has, until officially opening at end of year. Thanks to new funding, the store will remain stocked and staffed through December, ensuring the community continues to have access to healthy, local food.

For decades, Scott has been at the heart of our local food community. His vision and dedication have nourished Cottage Grove with fresh, organic products while fostering connection and sustainability. As he retires, we extend our deepest gratitude for all he has given.

Blackberry Food Co-op, formed by community members, will carry his mission forward — supporting local farmers, prioritizing healthy food, and strengthening community ties.

This is both a farewell and a new beginning. Together, we honor Scott’s legacy and look forward to building the next chapter in our town’s food story.
